In cooperation with CETAP, as part of the “The Smile of the Planet Is in Your Hands” project, we held an educational workshop at Dr. Safvet-beg Bašagić Primary School.

During the workshop, pupils learned what packaging is, what types of packaging waste exist, how to properly separate and dispose of them, and what happens to packaging waste during the recycling process. They then tested and expanded their knowledge through educational games.

Through the “Recycling Vocabulary” game, pupils became familiar with basic recycling-related terms, while the interactive “Quick Sorting” game taught them how to identify different types of packaging waste and place them in the appropriate bins. In this way, the educational content was linked to practical knowledge that pupils can apply in their own school.

The workshop in Gradačac is part of a new cycle of educational activities implemented by Ekopak in cooperation with CETAP. The “The Smile of the Planet Is in Your Hands” project combines education of children with concrete activities aimed at the development of separate packaging waste collection systems in local communities.
Gradačac is a good example of this approach. Following investment in infrastructure and the provision of separate packaging waste collection bins in schools, educating pupils helps create the conditions for the infrastructure to be used properly and for packaging waste separation to become part of everyday habits.

In the coming period, Ekopak will continue working with CETAP and local partners to combine investment in infrastructure development with education, as two important components in the development of the separate collection and recycling system for packaging waste in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
