AmCham BiH Published an Interview with Ekopak Director Amela Hrbat
The American Chamber of Commerce in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AmCham BiH) published an interview in its latest newsletter with the director of Ekopak, Amela Hrbat. The interview highlights the key principles of Ekopak’s business operations, the results achieved in recent years, as well as the challenges and future plans for improving the packaging waste recycling system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the interview, Director Hrbat presented Ekopak’s vision and emphasized that since the start of operational activities in 2012, nearly 160,000 tons of packaging waste have been delivered for recycling—an amount equal to the load of around 9,000 trucks. Special focus was placed on the development of infrastructure in local communities through the procurement of containers, equipment, and the creation of new eco-islands, as well as strengthening cooperation with utility companies.
Educating the public—especially children and youth—remains one of the key commitments Ekopak has set for itself. Over 100,000 citizens, primarily children, have participated in our educational programs, thereby jointly contributing to the development of generations that understand the importance of recycling and sustainable waste management.
The interview also addresses the challenges facing the sector—from limited recycling capacities within BiH to the need for accurate statistical data and stronger institutional support.
