The N1 TV team visited Ekopak, where we discussed achievements of Ekopak in packaging waste collecting and recycling, as well as the importance of the extended producer responsibility (EPR) system, a model that has been successfully functioning in the European Union for decades.

"The extended producer responsibility system, which is successfully applied across the EU but also in the region, allows producers to take responsibility for managing the packaging waste that arises after their products are consumed. For Bosnia and Herzegovina the adoption of such a system by both entity environmental ministries is not just a logical step forward, but also a crucial solution for developing a sustainable system. European experiences are invaluable, while all other approaches could lead to unnecessary experiments that would incur costs without bringing anything new," said Amela Hrbat, the director of Ekopak. Ekopak, through its membership in leading European packaging organizations – Pro Europe and EXPRA has access to these experiences, she added.

For 13 years, Ekopak has been working on improving the recycling system in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina by setting up infrastructure and raising public awareness about the importance of environmentally responsible behavior. A special focus has been paid on educating the youngest generations. Through numerous events and programs for children, Ekopak actively works on creating generations that understand and respect the principles of sustainability and recycling, it was highlighted.

Through these activities, Ekopak demonstrates its commitment to its environmental mission and reaffirms its position as a key player in the field of packaging waste recycling in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
