New quantities of glass packaging waste collected in Municipality Ilidža
Ekopak in cooperation with PUC Rad Sarajevo achieved significant progress in collection and recycling of glass packaging waste in Municipality Ilidža.
This positive step stems from the GIZ project "Management of glass packaging waste in Western Balkans," which was successfully implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina through Ekopak. However, there is still room for improvement because significant amounts of this type of packaging waste end up at the Smiljevići landfill instead of being recycled. That's why Ekopak is open to continuing to improve cooperation with PUC KJKP.
As part of this project, 50 specially designed containers for collection of glass packaging waste were placed in the area of Municipality Ilidža. Today, the containers were emptied and a significant amount of glass material was collected.
All collected glass packaging waste will be redirected to the Smiljevići sorting plant for further processing. After processing and sorting Ekopak will take responsibility for transporting this glass waste to the Vetropack factory in Croatia, a renowned regional leader in glass packaging recycling and the closest location to which Ekopak transports glass packaging waste for recycling.
