Ekopak and Ekotim, supported by the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, observed the World Environment Day by organizing educational project „The Planet's Smile is in Your Hands“
Ekopak in cooperation with Ekotim Association, supported by the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, this year observed June 5th, World Environment Day, by organizing a packaging waste management themed quiz in the Third Gymnasium.
This marked the final phase of the three-month project „The Planet's Smile is in Your Hands“ which engaged eight schools from the Sarajevo Canton:
- four primary schools (the Sixth Primary School, Safvet-beg Bašagić, Meša Selimović, Alija Nametak) and
- four high schools (High School „Obala“, High School of Economics, the Third Gymnasium and High School "Dobrinja")
Within the project „The Planet's Smile is in Your Hands“, 38 lectures on recycling and packaging waste management were held for 1100 students. Moreover, the students had an opportunity to compete in the quiz on packaging waste management and Packaging Waste Collection Competition. The participating schools received a certificate, and the winners of the competitions – students and schools, were rewarded by commendable prizes sponsored by Ekopak: laptops, photo cameras and encyclopedias.
Twenty four students competed in the quiz, and the best in showing their knowledge were:
- Irma Borovina (High School of Economics) – first place
- Naida Bašić (the Third Gymnasium) – second place
- Azemina Mašić (the Sixth Primary School) – third place
Schools showing the best results in Packaging Waste Collection Competition, helped and supported by „Papir Servis“ were:
- The Sixth Primary School (6.050 kg paper waste and 270 kg PET waste) – first place
- Primary School „Safvet-beg Bašagić“ (6.000 kg paper waste) – second place
- High School „Obala“ (1.430 kg paper waste) – third place
Ekopak, also, announced to continue with the project in September 2013 when the schools that participated in the project „The Planet's Smile is in Your Hands“ are going to receive blue and yellow garbage bins for separate paper and plastic waste disposal.
