Thirty-one eco-island in Bihać
On January 22nd 2015 handover of recycle bins for 31 eco-island to PUC Komrad took place in Bihać. Now citizens have the opportunity for selective disposal of their packaging waste that will be transported to recycling yard and prepared for recycling by Komrad. This is a continuation of the project "Establishment and development of primary selection of packaging waste from municipal solid waste in Bihać", signed in mid-2013 between Komrad and Ekopak, by which Bihać became first municipality in the Federation of B&H that has entered in the Green Dot System.
With the support of the Ministry of Construction, Urban Planning and Environmental Protection of USC, PUC Komrad initially ensured the blue waste bins for selective disposal of paper packaging. In order to put these waste bins into operation and in order to ensure the collection of other packaging materials (plastic, glass, multilayer materials, metal) by this contract Ekopak procured 64 waste bins for establishment of 31 eco-island with three different waste bins.
Ekopak will simultaneously organize promotional and educational activities in order to raise public awareness about the proper disposal and recycling of packaging waste.
At this way City of Bihać strengthens the image of a modern municipality in which environmental protection and waste management is important segment.
Packaging companies which are in system of Ekopak and which use the Green Dot sign on the packaging of their products are sending a clear message that they comply with legal obligations and that they directly finance the establishment and development of long-term, transparent, sustainable and efficient system of Green Dot in our country. So far Ekopak established cooperation with municipalities: Bihać, Gračanica, Orašje, Donji Vakuf, Kladanj, Ključ, Olovo, Breza, Vitez, Novi Travnik, Vogošća and counting.
A non-profit company Ekopak invites all manufacturers, importers, fillers, distributors, packers to enter in system of Ekopak, to meet their legal obligations at the lowest sustainable cost and at that way finance the system that Ekopak builds by the best practices and experiences of other states members of PRO EUROPE.
